Religion
Zoroastrianism is the ancient Persian religion. Zarathustra or Zoroaster in Greek was a Persian prophet, who at the age 30 believed he saw a vision of God, who he called Ahura Mazda, the creator of all that is good and who alone is worthy of worship. There is much disagreement on when and where Zarathustra, but most agree he lived in eastern Iran around 6th century BC. Zoroastrianism became the official religion of the Persian Empire, but it virtually disappeared in Persia after the Muslim invasion of 637 AD. They believe Ahura Mazda created the world and everything in it. The enemy of Ahura Mazda is the evil spirit Angra Mainyu. It is believed that one day the forces of good will defeat the forces of evil and restore the world to the state of perfection it was originally in. It is believed that people have to choose between good and bad. If the good deeds outweigh the bad they believe they will go to heaven by way of crossing a bridge. If the bad outweighs the good, they believe they will fall off the bridge and into hell.
